    This was a circle jerk for humbuckers. Single coil are great for leads, as well as humbuckers, except single coil is sharper. P90 is a great alternative for rhythm, if you like sharp rhythm. It’s a to each is own variability that makes modding a wonderful experience.. this video was terrible lol

    • @ScienceofLoud
      @ScienceofLoud День тому

      This pedal has gone through a number of changes over the years, so the component numbering is different depending on the version you have. Since it's burned out, I'd take an educated guess that it's one of the two 1Mohm resistors that form the voltage divider inside the power section. Being the first component in line with the power socket, if it's been provided too much voltage at some point, it would be the first part to go. It should be sitting beside another resistor (possibly labelled R8), if it is still intact measure its resistance, as it should be the same as the one beside it.

    • @fabiogarofalo6685
      @fabiogarofalo6685 День тому

      @@ScienceofLoud I thought about the 1Mohm resistor too, or that associated with the voltage divider, since the line goes straight to pin 7 on the opamp. But as far as I can see from images of other boards R8 and R9 have different values. Also in the same revision as mine (I have revision D of the board, but the GREEN PCB) they have different color codes. I wrote to MXR to know more about but still waiting for the response. how sad... should I throw away my D+?

    I just bought a dual rail pickup and the construction is wacky: Viewed from the bottom, there is no magnet sitting there between the two rail bottoms. Instead, the coil windings are visible, with the plane of the winds being vertical rather than horizontal. And, it is obvious that it is two coils, perhaps 5mm tall (or wide, depending upon your perspective)...with tiny leads coming out from the middle, where the two coils touch. As it is a humbucker, I presume the two coils have opposite wind directions. But, if there is just a single central magnet, they would not have opposite polarities. However, as follows, I guess the rails do have opposite polarities??? Picture a stacked pickup with the two coils having opposite phases (reverse winds)...but with the pickup turned on its side, so that top & bottom are now left & right sides...with vertical steel rails attached to the central (now horizontal) magnet, left & right. Thus, one rail is magnetically gripped by the South & the other rail gripped by the North pole. BUT, looking at the pickup, in its case, from the top, you'd never know that the construction was not as you described. Have you ever heard of this configuration? I haven't...but, I presume it works!

    using an opamp to essentially duplicate a voltage only for changing the impedance , the so called "signal followers" are also called "voltage buffers" are in guitar pedal world usually described as "buffered" pedals, some purists don't like how the impedance may affect the sound on their particular pickups/setup usually vintage amps that can have their impedance values vary quite a bit and may sound great or less great on partiicular combinations of guitar and amp, but that's the charm about it, that may be more touchy about about using opamp buffers, because it can fuck with your sustain a bit as impedance changes depending on how well or poorly it is designed :D

  • @mickeybravo6702
    @mickeybravo6702 3 дні тому

    A way I dial in unity gain for pedals I want equal volume whether on or off so I am coloring the sound but not boosting it is to run my looper pedal at the front of the signal chain. This eliminates the variance of trying to set it through guitar given unequal picking and also makes it a lot easier physically to work with the knobs on a pedal for subtle adjustments.

  • @gibfen1235
    @gibfen1235 3 дні тому

    Great explaination BUT at the end you mention someone setting their pedal for unity gain. I promise that there will be confusion when listening to their sound with the DISTORTION tuned off AND when the pedal is turn on but adjusted to "sound the same". I REALLY wished you had shown this.

  • @user-rx7kw6ro6y
    @user-rx7kw6ro6y 3 дні тому

    The only side note i could add though is that you may need to use a bigger amp for stiffer bottom end from having a more capable output transformer. Why bass amps usually have huge wattages is because they would sound mushy. If you down tune into the doom territory C# and lower, or play a 7 string as it has a low B, you will begin to encounter that issue. It isnt uncommon to see 100w and 200w being used through a 212, but turned way down, and a fuzz infront of the amp to boost the preamp signal. However that is a niche issue, and why i use a 30w as a practice amp as its the lowest I can go, whist not getting mushy. Truth be told its lead me into using solid state more for my cleans and using the valve for dirt only

  • @TheJstewart2010
    @TheJstewart2010 3 дні тому

    Those pickups sound terrific. I've been a big fan of P90's for a long time. My one specific question is the sound difference (if any) between "standard size" P90's versus "humbucker size" P90's? The latter are really useful since so many guitars are routed for humbuckers and you therefore don't need to modify the guitar body. Is there a tone price to be paid for this convenience, though?

    Thank you for your review ... I have one on those now, and I am really satisfied how it is and plays ... The sounds are what I looked for ... now.. Good Tele sounds ... No it is not a vintage - 69 thin-line... I think the first year Fender introduced this model.... But try and find one you can afford ... But it will serve me well .... I have the TE-52 NT as well - and I am not sure witch I like the best.. the 52 is a little darker sounding and I like that .. I have changed to good compensated saddles on both, something I really can recommend....

    Id love you to help explain how you can set up your sound including unity gain in a home setting so its ready for a much louder live setting? I will often get my zoom G7ut set so that 2 channels (clean dirty for example) have no discernable difference when "loudish" at home but at practice or live its quite noticeable. The same for expression effects where chirus might be subtle at home but overkill live. I gues that is the same for why my guitar sounds rounded and fairly bassy and full of chug at home but loud it sounds full of mid and like a fart in a biscuit tin. Can you help?

  • @EthanRMus
    @EthanRMus 3 дні тому

    Why do pickups with lower resistances have lower outputs? That seems backwards. If theres less resistance, shouldnt the current flow easier and therefor be higher output? Edit* NEVERMIND! Just remembered Ohms law. For anyone else wondering, its because the output is measured in Volts, and Ohms law states that Voltage = Current x Resistance, so increasing resistance will increase voltage. Or, more intuitively, since voltage is the electric pressure or potential energy of the current, it makes sense that increasing the resistance would increase this pressure. Second edit* NEVERMIND AGAIN. Now Im even more confused because volume pots also work by adding resistance but in this case it decreases voltage amplitude. I am so lost.
